Tasmanian Gambling Exclusion Scheme
The Tasmanian Gambling Exclusion Scheme helps people avoid gambling by excluding them from gambling venues or activities.
This scheme is supported by the Gaming Control Act 1993 and is managed by the Tasmanian Liquor and Gaming Commission.
There are four ways a person can be excluded from gambling venues:
- Self-exclusion – when a person chooses to exclude themselves.
- Venue operator exclusion – when the venue operator decides to exclude a person.
- Third-party exclusion – when another person requests the exclusion.
- Commissioner of Police exclusion – when the Commissioner of Police orders the exclusion.
A person can be excluded from:
- An entire venue, meaning they cannot enter or be on the premises.
- Participating in gambling at a venue, meaning they cannot engage in gaming activities or enter a restricted gaming area.
The scheme is supported by an online database managed by the Liquor and Gaming Branch. This database gives venue operators, Gamblers Help service provider (Anglicare Tasmania), and the Liquor and Gaming Branch immediate and secure access to information about excluded individuals, ensuring that venue operators have up-to-date information about people excluded from their venues.
