NILS is the No Interest Loan Scheme. We help low income Tasmanians get safe, fair and affordable loans.

We can lend you up to $2000 to buy new items and services, including
- Household essentials – like fridges, washers, furniture
- Education Essentials – like computers, school trips, textbooks and school uniforms
- Medical and Dental Essentials – like mobility equipment, dentures and treatment costs
- Car Care Essentials – like registration, tyres and repairs
- Family Violence Support – including removal costs and security equipment
We don’t:
- Lend for food, bills, rent or bond
- Give you cash
- Lend for second hand goods

Who this service is for
Low-income Tasmanians.
To qualify you must:
- A current healthcare card, pension card, DVA card.
- To be in receipt of fortnightly Centrelink or DVA Payments, or have a working income of $55,000 gross or less.
- To live in stable accommodation (exceptions can be made in some cases).
- Capacity to repay the loan.
Cost
There are no fees, charges or interest. You only repay what you borrow.
The repayments on a $2,000 loan is $40 per fortnight over approximately 24 months.
