Legal Literacy Volunteers Program
Volunteering for Launceston Community Legal Centre’s Legal Literacy Volunteer (LLV) Program is a unique and rewarding opportunity. We need volunteers!
Our program, which runs through the North/North-East of Tasmania, is the only one of its kind in Australia. The work that our volunteers do is instrumental in providing the community with support and hands-on assistance needed with form completion and clear referral pathways to legal services.
At Legal Literacy Volunteers, we provide the following services to our community:
- Help people understand and complete forms
- Show people simple steps to sort out problems
- Help resolve disputes before they escalate
- Help avoid unnecessary legal complications
- Build knowledge of the law
- Provide timely referrals to free legal services
- Provide timely referrals to other community services

Who this service is for
Importantly LLVs are not lawyers and do not come from a legal background.
They are driven by a desire to help empower people within their communities. Whilst they do not provide legal advice, our volunteers are provided with training and resources to identify legal need and appropriately refer clients to the free legal services of the Launceston Community Legal Centre and or other organisations.
