Launceston Medicare Mental Health Centre

Launceston Medicare Mental Health Centre is a free, walk-in service that provides short- to medium-term mental health support for people over the age of 18. No appointment or referral is needed. Family and friends of people experiencing mental health concerns can also seek support from the service. Mental health trained professionals will assist individuals by providing mental health support and assistance accessing other appropriate services. Services are primarily provided face-to-face, and via telehealth if needed.

Supports available: Immediate short- to medium-term mental health support, Brief Interventions and Psychoeducation, Peer support,  Referrals, Family and Carer support.

Eligibility: No appointment or referral is needed, Launceston Medicare Mental Health Centre is a walk-in service. However, people can be referred by a GP or other support service, or by family and friends with the person’s consent.

What is IAR?

  1. Level 1 - Self Management

    Self Management

    This level of care is designed to help you take charge of your mental health before it worsens. You may be having difficulty with sleeping, managing stress, maintaining healthy behaviours or parenting. Resources at this level promote positive mental health through easily accessible digital therapies or self-guided mental health programs in your community. Services are user-friendly and are based on reliable scientific evidence.

  2. Level 2 - Low Intensity

    Low Intensity

    Although brief, level 2 services include some direct contact with a mental health professional. You may also see therapists, coaches or social workers. There will be options to access these services via telehealth, face to face or over the phone. At this level, you should only need a few sessions or engagements before you start to feel more empowered to manage your mental health.

  3. Level 3 - Moderate Intensity

    Moderate Intensity

    This level involves more frequent contact with a professional to help with your mental distress. Access to these services will generally require a referral from your GP or other mental health professional. Your referral will include a mental health treatment plan that assists the mental health professional (psychologists, mental health social worker, etc.) to provide personalised support to you over a period of time that works best for you.

  4. Level 4 - High Intensity

    High Intensity

    At level 4, you will require support from a range of health professionals, such as psychiatrists, psychologists, and social workers. This is needed, as you are experiencing severe symptoms and your mental health is significantly impacting your day- to- day functioning. Access to these services will require a referral from your GP or other mental health professional as a personalised plan will need to be developed to help you manage your mental health. You can be seen in the community, or an outpatient in a hospital.
