Council on the Ageing (COTA) Tasmania Inc. is the peak body for older Tasmanians. Our mission is to advance the rights, interests and futures of Australians as we age. We view ageing as a time of possibility, opportunity and influence and we lobby for an equitable, just and inclusive society in which the voices of older Australians are respected and welcomed.

We advocate to Government, public services, community organisations, and the public to promote positive change for older Tasmanians.

COTA is involved in the following:

• Research and advocacy into elder abuse, active ageing, ageism, mature aged workforce issues and community inclusion
• Care Finder program (aged care navigation assistance) – see: https://cotatas.org.au/programs/carefinder
• Awareness-raising about elder abuse and age-based discrimination
• Monthly legal clinics in collaboration with Tasmanian Legal Aid
• Peer education sessions on issues affecting older people
• Coordination of annual Seniors Week and World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEADD) Walk Against Elder Abuse
• Projects and activities that focus on intergenerational connections

We are the Tasmanian branch of the national COTA federation.

COTA are keen to support the community and provide information about issues relating to older people.
