Community Respite Care
Some families are doing it tough, and just need a break.
Respite care provides vital support and assistance to families who are experiencing difficulties. Very often, families are isolated and have no extended family or friends to provide the parent (or parents) with a break from the challenges of raising children.
While respite care is more temporary than foster care, it’s no less important.
Respite care is usually set up to best suit the child, the family or the carer, and to provide a child with a positive experience. Wherever possible, Kennerley tries to place children with the same carer each time they come into respite care.
Generally, respite periods will be 1 to 2 days, but can be extended by agreement for exceptional circumstances. Carers are allowed a total of 28 days of respite per financial year.
