Carer Gateway
Carer Gateway, an Australian Government program, is the single point of contact for carers providing unpaid care and support to a family member or friend with disability, mental ill health, chronic or life-limiting illness, alcohol or other drug dependence or who is frail and aged.
Carer Gateway services can be accessed in-person, over the phone or online via a video call. Support and services are free and may look like:
- Help with navigating the range of available services
- Help with referrals
- Tailored support packages to help at home
- Talking through your feelings and emotions with a counsellor
- Help to achieve goals with a carer coach
- Wellbeing events
- Connection with other carers
- Help with accessing residential respite (if the person you care for is over 65, or 50 if Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander)
